Carey is a former fashion model. She stands almost 5'10" tall and was very sought-after by the famous American fashion designers like Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and others. Her father, a distinguished scientist who won the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists 1979 Scientist of the Year prize, is an accomplished geoscientist. In the course of his career Carey was raised all over the globe. The model began modeling for a part-time basis when she was a student at college at University of Colorado and caught the attention of a representative for the Ford model Agency in New York. The model briefly studied and lived in Paris before returning back to New York. Her modeling and academic career rocketed and she appeared on the covers of Glamour's and Vogue's as well as many other covers of magazines. When she was modeling, she continued to study full-time for a literature major at New York University. She became more interested in acting, and began training at the Neighborhood Playhouse of New York. Her debut as an actor was an appearance with Robin Williams in the 1986 film "Club Paradise. She spends her free time skiing, white-water rafting, windsurfing, and rock climbing.
